Naudi Aguilar is a great personal trainer and his functional strength routines are really unique….Check out this great movement routine.  You should definitely look up his channel on youtube, there is a lot of great stuff for the BJJ guys out there…

Cobrinha Warm Ups..

I am always on the lookout for better ways to drill and warmup.  Well in this video from Cobrinhabjj.com I think I hit the jack pot. Here are some unique drills that are a definite must-add to your jiu jitsu workouts.  I especially like how Cobrinha adds some capoeira into the routine plus the heavy drilling for the inverted guard…

Full body exercise for jiu jitsu…

This is from the guys over at bjjworkouts.com  I really like a lot of their workouts, they are one of the few out there that have really good sport specific routines for the BJJ players.  This is just a small example of some of the types of exercises that they have to offer.  I like how they make standing up in a base position  into a core exercise….

90 Degree Pike Push-Up …..

This is a nice intermediate version of the handstand push up from Mike Fitch. This is an especially  good exercise for the Jiu Jitsu players out there for the more acrobatic guard passes…..

So obviously this weeks exercise theme has been the handstand or handstand push up.  Since some of what I been posting maybe too advanced for some out there (me included..lol) I thought I’d post the easier cousin of the handstand, the headstand.

This is a great move to work yourself up to the handstand and to the more difficult versions that follow after you can achieve an un-assisted handstand…….

This is a impressive display from head Yoga instructor Kino MacGregor from Kino Yoga.  If I had half the ability she has my life would be complete…..lol

This is a great circuit for conditioning, but what I really love about this video is that it shows you that you really don’t need a gym to workout in. This is just an average guy doing a complete professional type workout in his living room. I laugh when I hear people say “I have to get back to the gym” as their excuse of not working out when in reality you are your own gym !……Props to Craig Fingrutd for uploading this video…

Quick and to the point.  Here are some more variations of hand stand push ups to add to your training….

Matthew Armstrong does a great job in this video of showing beginning to advanced techniques of the handstand push up.  This is an overall great exercise for balance, strength and conditioning. Just make sure you start out on the beginning exercises before you work up to the advanced series…..
